The "Bonded" series was created after months roaming the galleries of Europe where I became fascinated by the enigmatic portraits of women who posed to have their likeness captured by renaissance artists.Typical of the era, many of these fine works portray women as soft and compliant, with the only clue to their true character limited to a slight smile. Although decorated in fine detail with symbols of wealth and social standing, their lives and circumstances were not under their control.
Over time, the progression of attitudes towards women, and of women towards themselves, continues to intrigue me. This series relates to the many generations of women, who, bound by social, cultural and/or religious expectations, share a bond with each other that remains strong, connected and uniquely attuned to the natural world.

These are limited edition prints with 100 copies of this size.
All are printed on museum quality 310gsm cotton rag paper, acid free with archival pigments inks.
 
Each print is individually signed, dated and numbered by Helen Elizabeth Donald.
